The Moon had moved past its conjunction to Pluto – fitting for a jury deliberating a murder case. I’ve included Amanda’s as well. Fortunately for her,  transiting Saturn is finally past the square to her Natal Sun. That bodes well for her.

Early cardinal signs continue to feel the pressure, especially early Cancer (and wherever you have Cancer in your chart). With the Sun on the 2nd house cusp, Saturn in the 2nd, Uranus in the 8th, and Pluto on the cusp of the 5th – the Clinton-era saying still applies – it’s the economy, stupid. The stock market looks to pull back this fall. President Obama will be more aggressive with Mars transiting in conjunction to his natal Sun (exact on 10/9). Interesting that the Midheaven in the Equinox chart is 3º Gemini – exactly conjunct Obama’s natal Moon. If the election were this fall, that would be a good sign for him. With transiting Uranus squaring Obama’s natal Venus, I suspect his popularity will fluctuate wildly for a while.

First of all, thanks to everyone who wrote and asked if I was ok. I appreciate your concern. I was in a clothing store when I felt the shaking. I thought that the air conditioning system was kicking in and rattling things. Little did I know. So, as I wrote in this blog about a month ago, transiting Mars was to conjoin the United States Sun today @ 13′ Cancer. Mars transits aren’t subtle. This time Mars squares Saturn. Anyway, I’ve spent more time trying to get news on the nuclear power plant shutdown than I have studying the earthquake chart – but here it is. There was even an aftershock just before I began to write this.

Update: Fortunately, the Mars/Uranus P3 progression has passed and President Obama was unscathed. He did propose that millionaires and corporations pay more taxes. What nerve!

Astrologers can skip this part and go straight down to my comments on President Obama’s chart. Tertiary progressions are an accurate, and underused, predictive tool for Astrologers. They are especially useful when viewed together with transits, secondary progressions and Solar Arc directions. I’ve been using tertiaries in my analysis for quite awhile and have come to appreciate their value. Most, if not all, Astrology software packages include the option for Secondary, Tertiary and Minor progressions, as well as Solar Arc directions. To anyone unfamiliar, in Tertiary progressions (I’ll call P3) one day = one lunar month of life (secondaries are one day = one year). I look at P3 to P3 aspects, especially lunations, as well as P3 to natal.  For example, we have a P3 New Moon every 2 years and 2 months (approx.). It’s important to pay attention to the sign and degree of these lunations, as they will provide information on where you’re at in life, and where you’re headed. P3 retrogradation and stations are extremely important. This really hit home when my P3 Saturn stationed direct on my natal Moon for a few years – no fun! Robert Blaschke stated that “…tertiary progressions are the relationship between matter and soul (Earth – Moon)” and that “tertiary progressions define the experiences of the emotional / astral body (Soul entering Matter…)”.¹

So here’s a look at some of President Obama’s significant P3 aspects. I’m using Solar Fire for these calculations. When compared with IO for Mac there was a 1 day discrepancy. I’ve searched, but I haven’t found any mention or interpretation of Obama’s Tertiary progressions on the ‘net.

• The big one -November 5, 2008 – P3 Venus / Jupiter conjunction @ 5º44″ Aries -  That morning he woke up as President of the United States. The Sabian symbol for 6º Aries (rounding up) is: “A Black square; one of it’s sides is illumined red”². Really.
  It is only one of three times in his life this aspect occurs -Venus conjunct Jupiter is a whole lotta love. The previous time was 5/27/1975 (age 14) and the next one will be 8/23/2031 (age 70), both different degrees.

Upcoming:

• September 17, 2011 – P3 Mars / Uranus conjunction @ 1º29″ Virgo – Again, only one of three times in his life this aspect occurs - (this time conjunct his natal Uranus / Pluto Midpoint) Is he in danger? Will he do something out of character? I don’t know, but it’s a concern because it falls within a day of transiting Pluto stationing direct (9/16/11) @ 4º53″ Capricorn. Pluto stations are always intense, transformative periods. The Sabian symbol for 2º Virgo is “A large white cross stands alone on top of a high hill”³ .The only other time in his life this aspect will occur (different degrees) will be at ages 91 and 100, should he live that long.
• November 8, 2012 – P3 New Moon @ 29º23″ Gemini. Election day is 11/6/12. This is within 2 1/2 degrees of his natal Venus (@ 1º47″Cancer). A new beginning, but that would fit re-election, or not. The Sabian symbol for 30º Gemini is: “A parade of bathing beauties before large beach crowds”4. Marc Jones (from Rudhyar’s book) goes on to describe this symbol as “Use of individual vanity in raising racial standards”.
• November 21, 2012 – P3 Mars / Pluto conjunction @ 9º47″ Virgo. Powerful drive and energy – right after the P3 New Moon and election. Still possibly dangerous. The Sabian symbol for 10º Virgo is “A man with two heads is seen looking out to the beyond”5. This P3 aspect won’t occur again until 2053 and 2060 (different degrees).

Of course, you may draw your own conclusions. I haven’t studied Mitt Romney’s chart, but based on these P3 aspects, I’d  predict that President Obama has a good chance of being re-elected in spite of the current unemployment rate and poll numbers.

Other notes on the 2012 election: On election day, the Moon is in Leo and will conjoin Obama’s natal Sun at 3:54 PM ET. Late that evening, transiting Mars will square his natal Mars (anger?). Transiting Mercury will go retrograde @ 4º Sagittarius on election day and will square Neptune @ 0º Pisces (stationing direct). Can you say “hanging chad”? This looks like a mess. If there’s a signature aspect for confusion (at best) and fraud (at worst) it’s this. I’ll continue to study the candidate’s charts and will post any other interesting observations.

Here are the charts for the Oslo bombing, the mass shooting, and a sunrise chart for Anders Breivik (birthtime unknown), the alleged shooter. A few people have asked me if this was related to Mars going out of bounds. Mars actually went out of bounds on July 24th. I’ve created a graphic (below) showing Mars’ declination for this year. The events in Oslo were eerily close to the Mars OOB period, for sure. Another thing that strikes me is the conjunction of the Moon to Eris @ 22? Aries. Google a list of keywords for Eris and see what you come up with. “Discord” is always mentioned. In the myth, Eris was excluded from the wedding of Peleus and Thetis and needless to say, she was pretty pissed off. I would add the keyword “exclusion”. Anders Breivik resented multiculturalism. In his words:

“We will defeat the cultural Marxists/multiculturalists because they seek to wipe out everything European. We will not forgive them and we will show them no mercy…”

This is about hate and exlusion, particularly of Muslims. Some Astrologers have also described Eris’ influence as an individual who’s ahead of his time, also terrorism and abuse of minorities (click to see excellent Astronuts post) In Breivik’s deranged mind, he was ahead of his time. This, from his “manifesto”:

“Most people will today openly condemn us as terrorists. However, a hundred years from now we will be celebrated as pioneers, as heroes who gave their lives combating a tyrant oppressor.”

Breivik’s secondary progressed Moon has been in Scorpio for about ten months. He’s probably been obsessing about doing this for at least that long.

This Mars OOB period is especially volatile when transiting Mars squares Uranus (8/9), opposes Pluto (8/10), and crosses the eclipse point @ 9? Cancer (8/16-17). Mars will conjoin the US Sun on August 23rd.

Update: Thanks to a kind reader, I have what seems to be a correct time of birth and have posted the chart.

Of course my first reaction was – oh no – overdose. Obviously she had a history of drug use, but the Moon in Taurus was conjunct Jupiter, which can drive us to excess. The death chart below is for 4:00 PM, which is the time that ambulances were called to her residence. I don’t know the exact time of death. But what is it about the age of 27 for rock/pop stars? Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Brian Jones, Jim Morrison, Robert Johnson (blues) Pigpen (The Dead) Basquiat (painter, graffiti artist). It isn’t quite her Saturn return, but close. Amy’s Saturn was in Scorpio. As for today’s transits, Mars @ 22 Gemini is square her natal Mercury. An argument? Mercury rules the lungs. Of course everyone knows about her substance abuse problems, but she also had emphysema and an irregular heartbeat. Her natal Sun was at 21 Virgo and her Moon is 0? Capricorn. Also, her Sun / Mercury conjunction in Virgo is square natal Neptune. This can indicate musical or artistic ability, but also potential issues with various forms of escapism – often drugs or alcohol. Her Capricorn Moon is out of bounds at 24 S 18. Google OOB Moon and read all about it (or refer to my post on Casey Anthony) What a great singer – she will be missed.

Whether it’s the budget talks in Washington or the NFL collective bargaining agreement, I don’t expect much to get done today with the Mercury semi-square (45º) Saturn aspect. Things could start to move forward by Saturday afternoon, but I’d predict that both President Obama and Commissioner Goodell will have deals done by Wednesday July 27th, when the Sun trines Uranus.
